"How do I get my mother-in-law onto this?"
The list is built. You picked the items, you set it up the way you wanted, and it looks good.
Now comes the hard part, which is everyone else.
This is where family invites usually die. You send the wrong kind of invite and someone hits a wall they cannot get past. Grandma is asked to create an account, pick a password, and verify an email, and she quits somewhere around step two. Your partner ends up as a spectator on a page they were supposed to be running with you. Someone asks to join and the request sits somewhere you never think to look.
The fix is not a better invite email. It is picking the right door.
Belovity has three of them, and they do genuinely different things. There is an admin invite, for the people who run the page with you. There is a share link, for the people who just need to see the list. And there is a follow request, for the people who found you on their own.
Match the person to the door and this takes an afternoon instead of a month.
The three doors, side by side
Door 1: the admin invite, by email
Who it is for: a co-parent, a partner, your sister who is actually organizing the shower.
How they get it: an email invitation, sent to a specific address.
What they become: an admin, who can edit the page and the lists alongside you.
Approval needed: none from you. But they have to accept.
Door 2: the share link, one tap
Who it is for: grandparents, aunts, uncles, coworkers, the group chat.
How they get it: you copy one link and send it however you already talk to them.
What they become: a follower, immediately, the moment they tap accept.
Approval needed: none. There is no queue and no waiting on you.
Door 3: the follow request
Who it is for: anyone who arrives on their own instead of through a link from you.
How it starts: they tap Follow on your family page.
What they become: nothing yet. A pending request.
Approval needed: yes. It waits in your Pending approvals tab until you say yes.
The one-line rule
Running the page with you? Admin invite.
Just needs to shop the list? Share link.
Showed up without an invite? They request, you approve.
How Belovity approaches it
Door 1: the admin invite is an email, on purpose
You will find it in your family page settings, under the Family admins tab. Only the family owner sees that tab and can add or remove admins, so admins cannot quietly add more admins behind you.
You type an email address and save. That is the whole flow.
The list then tells you where everyone stands at a glance. A check mark next to an email means that person is an active admin. An hourglass means the invite is still pending: sent, not yet accepted.
The invite is tied to that exact email address. When they open it, the sign-up field is already filled in and locked, so they cannot accept it on a different account by accident.
The link is also signed and it expires. Tampering with it breaks it, and it goes stale after a set window instead of living in an inbox forever.
There is nothing to install and no password to make. If they do not have an account yet, the invite walks them straight into one. They enter their name and they are in.
They can also decline, and you get told either way, so the hourglass is never a mystery.
If you change your mind, you can take an invite back before it is accepted. Remove the row, save, and the pending invite is revoked.
You can send this during initial setup too, when Belovity asks for your partner's email. Or skip it there and do it later.
What an admin can actually do
An admin can edit the family page and the gift lists.
They can manage followers: approve requests, adjust access, remove people.
They see everything on the page. Admins are not subject to the per-person visibility rules that followers are.
Two things stay with the owner alone: adding or removing admins, and billing.
Door 2: the share link is the grandparent path
This one lives on the Followers page, under Invite Link. Copy it and send it. Text it, email it, paste it in the group chat. It is just a link.
If they are already signed in, they land on a card that says they are on your list. They tap Accept invite and they are a follower. That is it.
If they are not signed in, they type their email and Belovity emails them a link to click. No password is ever created. There is no password on a Belovity account to invent, forget, or reuse.
There is no approval queue here. The share link makes them a follower directly, so nothing waits on you to notice it.
It is also safe to send twice. If someone opens it who is already following you, nothing breaks and nothing duplicates.
They land with gift-list access already sorted out. Each list has a Visible to new followers setting, and new followers automatically get the ones you marked yes.
And you can kill the link whenever you want. Regenerate Link mints a new one and the old one stops working. Everyone who already joined stays, and so does anyone mid-request.
Door 3: requests wait for you
The Follow button on your family page is how someone asks to be let in.
Signed-out visitors get sent through sign-up first, and the request is filed as soon as their profile is done.
It also shows up mid-gift. If someone who is not a follower tries to mark something on your list as purchased, Belovity stops them and offers to send the follow request right there.
Those requests land in the Pending approvals tab on your Followers page, with the date each person asked.
You approve or deny, one at a time, or several at once with a bulk action. Approved people become followers and pick up the same default gift-list access as everyone else. The person who asked gets told when you approve.
Nobody is stuck waiting on you forever, either. A pending request can be withdrawn by the person who sent it.
Repeat-request spam is throttled, so the Follow button will not let someone hammer it.
Roles: owner, admin, follower
The owner created the page. It is the only role that can manage admins and billing.
An admin has the full run of the page and its lists, plus follower management.
A follower sees the gift lists you have given them.
None of this is permanent, and changing someone's role is not a demolition.
Demoting an admin without cutting them off
Remove an admin from the Family admins tab and they are not deleted. They become a follower.
You get a confirmation prompt first, because it is a real change to what someone can do.
They keep access to the gift lists you have marked visible to new followers. The natural case is the one you would expect: the shower is over, they do not need to edit anything anymore, but they are still family and still shopping.
Removing an admin invite that was never accepted is different, and cleaner. It just revokes the invite.
Adjusting or ending access later
Every follower can be tuned per gift list from the Followers table. A list can be showing or hidden for one specific person.
Followers can also be removed entirely, one at a time or in bulk, and their access ends with them.
People can leave on their own too. Following is not a trap.
One honest caveat: a follower's access only means anything if your page is private in the first place. A page set to public is readable by anyone with the address, and Belovity says so directly in the Followers table rather than letting you think otherwise.
Three real setups
The baby shower, run by two people
Your partner gets an admin invite by email. Now they add items and answer questions without asking you to do it.
Both grandmothers, the aunts, and the work friends get one share link, sent in three different group chats.
The coworker who heard about it secondhand finds the page, taps Follow, and waits in your approvals tab until you recognize the name.
Two people running it, twenty people shopping it, one door you actually have to police.
The grandparent who does not do apps
Send the share link by text or email, whatever she already opens.
She taps it, types her email, clicks the link Belovity sends her, and enters her name. Nothing gets invented and nothing gets written on a sticky note.
She is a follower and the gift list is right there.
There is nothing for you to approve, so she is not stuck waiting on you to check your phone.
The birthday list that outlives the birthday
Your sister was an admin while she was organizing the party.
Afterwards, remove her from the admins tab. She drops to follower and keeps the lists she should still see.
Regenerate the invite link, so the version that got forwarded around her office stops working.
Then prune the followers you do not want carrying over into next year.
Checklist: get your family onto the page today
Decide who runs the page with you. That is your admin list, and it is usually one person.
Send those admin invites first. A co-organizer is worth more than ten followers.
Check the Family admins tab a day later. Hourglass still showing? Nudge them, because the link does not last forever.
Open each gift list and confirm Visible to new followers is set the way you want, before you send the share link.
Copy the share link once. Send it to everyone who just needs to shop.
Check Pending approvals. That is where the people you did not invite are waiting.
After the event, demote the admins who are done, regenerate the link, and remove the followers who should not carry over.
Give everyone the right door
Family invites do not stall because people do not care. They stall because someone was handed the wrong door.
Give the co-parent an admin invite. Give grandma a link. And let everyone else knock.
Open your Followers page, copy your invite link, and send it to one person today.
